Chrysler Repair: 02 Voyager: loss of instrument cluster function, soldering pencil, trip odometer

Question
Hi Kevin,
The below info is what Roland has given me and now he is unaval.
I was hopeing to get somemore input on the below info.
Roland also wanted to know if I checked fuse #24 in my van.  I just replaced this after the problem started.

Thanks for your help
Question   QUESTION: Hi, I got in my van to go to work, it started fine and ran good.  I noticed after driver everything on the dash is not working except for the lights.  I already replaced all the fuses.  It won't show the odometer, how fast I'm going, how much gas is in it, and also the turn signals don't work nor show on the dash.  The headlights work.  So do you think you know possibly what this is??

ANSWER: Hi Colleen,
All the signals for the gauges and light come to the cluster on a single wire in digital format. The common cause of this problem is that the solder joint between the pin for that wire at the socket where all the wires plug in has broken open which severs the data stream from reacing the circuit board of the cluster. You would need to remove the instrument cluster bezel and plug and then the cluster itself and using a soldering pencil (available at an electronics supply store) re-heat the joint at the plug socket pin/circuit board interface for pin 9 (violet/white wire on the incoming plug). If you want to try this yourself let me know and I can tell you the steps.  Tell me if the transmission range indicator below the cluster is mechanical or electronic.
You might get a temporary fix by hitting the top of the cluster bezel firmly with the side or palm of your hand which I have learned from other owners will sometimes cause the signal to reconnect.
Roland
PS: The cluster will verify a communication failure by doing a self-test. With the ignition off, depress and hold the trip odometer reset button until the words SOF and a number appear in the odometer window. Then release the button and a 4-digit number will probabllllly appear. If the number is between 100.0 and 100.6 that will verify a communication failure. It will then say 'end' and return to normal function.

QUESTION: Ok to I tried the self test and that didn't work at all.  I wouldn't mind trying to fix this problem myself if you could respond with the steps.  The transmission range I believe is electronic.  Thanks for your help

Answer   Hi Collen,
I'll type it in later this evening and send you a revision of this answer. In the meantime, check fuse 24 in the main fuse box in the engine compartment just to be sure it doesn't have a subtle crack in the internal wire. That fuse runs the cluster. Let me know if it is blown.

Answer
Hi Colleen,
If the self-test didn't work at all, then it is possible that the power to the instrument cluster from fuse 24 is not present. So again may I recomment that you remove the cluster and check the pin 9 solder joint, and also check pin 6 to see if it shows 12v (coming from fuse 24) and also pins 7 and 13 to see if they show 0 ohm rsistance to ground as they should. Kevin put your question in the 'pool' when he went on vacation so I am responding.
