Question
QUESTION: I have a 2000 dodge neon 2.0 sohc when coming to a stop it stalls but it does not do this all the time i checked the vaccum lines and that is not it i thought maybe it would be an egr valve but there isnt an egr on it so im out of ideas unless it might be my fuel filter but it doesnt sound like a fuel filter to me what do u think it could be

ANSWER: Hi Bill,
How about a fault code readout, using the ignition key:"On-off-on-off-on and leave on, doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the odometer window to look for any 4-digit fault codes to appear. Then let me know what they are and we'll go from there.

QUESTION: Ok i did the code read out on-off-on-off-on and it came up fuse so i checked all of the fuses and of them were fine i checked the fuses under the hood and the ones on the side of the dash the only fuses i couldnt see were the big ones with the black covering so maybe one of them were it. but let me know what you think i really appreciate thanks

ANSWER: Hi Bill,
I am sorry to not know exactly what you mean by the 'big ones with the black covering', are they in the engine compartment or the dash?
You also might want to check to see if one of the fuses might have a subtle crack rather than a frank blow out as that is how fuses sometimes fail from fatigue though they look well otherwise. You would have to look closely, or remove the fuses and check each with an ohmmeter. I haven't been aware that there would be a 'fuse' code in the odometer window, I'll look further into that. I can't be sure though in any case why a fuse would cause a stall when coming to a stop...

QUESTION: Ok i checked the fuses with an ohmeter and they were fine and the big ones with the black covering under the hood were fine as well. i changes my spark plugs and wires this past weekend cuz i was i getting a high idle and it studerd and after i changed them it quit but now its back again and when i get on it it bogs down is that a sign of a fuel filter and could that be the reason my car stalls thanks bill

Answer
Hi Bill,
Because of the unusual readout "fuses" I wonder whether you really can get a full readout of the OBD-II codes just using the ignition key. If there is an Autozone parts store near you they will often do a readout using the socket under the dash by the steering wheel. If you can't get to an Autozone, an independent shop will do a readout for about $40. Once you get the 4-digit numbers, ask what they mean, what they recommend to do, and at what cost. Then write back to me and we can compare notes with the shop manual.
I would not believe a fuel filter would be the cause. But the full code readout is the best next step.
