Chrysler Repair: 1995 Chrysler LHS: dies then recovers, 1995 chrysler lhs, chrysler lhs

Question
QUESTION: how do u change the fuel filter in a 1995 Chryler LHS

ANSWER: Hi Mary,
The fuel filter is located on the right side frame rail along the fuel line just in front of the fuel tank. It has plastic-type and a metal-type quick disconnect fitting, one on each end. It would be helpful to you if you had the written instruction/figures for removing and reattching these two kinds of fittings. There is also an instruction for how to relieve the pressure that is stored in the fuel system. It would be easier for me to copy and postal mail you these instructions than to type them into the answer. Let me know a postal mailing address, then I will xerox copy these instructions and postal mail them to you.

PS Out of curiosity, what leads you to want to change the filter? Is there some problem that you believe is due to a clogged filter? or is this routing maintenance.

QUESTION: I recently had the timing belt changed on my 95 Chrysler LHS after it had been setting up for about a year and a half. Lately it has been dying on me while I'm driving down the road, if I let it set without touching it for about 15 to 20 minutes it will crank back up, do you know what is wrong with it, somebody told me it maybe the fuel filter because it had set up so long

ANSWER: Hi Mary,
That is why I asked. I would believe this has nothing to do with the fuel filter. It sounds possibly like one of the ignition timing sensor is breaking down, then recovering as it cools down. The easiest way to find out is to use the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light, which remains 'on', to begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat to be sure of a consistent count of the flashes. Then group the counts in pairs in the order of appearance to form 2-digit fault codes that will tell you what may be wrong. The last such code is always 55, which the code for 'end of readout'. Write back with the other code numbers and we can go from there. The sensor code are 11 and 54. You can also go to www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html for a code list. If you write back tell me which engine you have in the car.

QUESTION: I'm pretty sure the code was 11, but i think it might have been 12. It's a V8 3.5L 24 Valve

Answer
Hi Mary,
Try to get the code clearly. The 12 code means the battery was disconnected recently (within the past 50-100 key on-off cycles) which might have been the case when the belt was replaced. As I mentioned the 11 code means that the crankshaft sensor is not putting out a signal to the engine computer. The sensor is quick to replace and costs around $75 for the part, but do verify that it is a code 11. You should have 1-1-5-5 flashes if that is the case. If you have a voltmeter and the interest in getting "into" the repair I can tell you how to probe the wires of the sensor, turn the engine by hand, and thus conclude it the sensor is bad. But this has to be done when it is in the 'shutdown' status.
