Chrysler Repair: 92 Chrysler Lebaron steering wheel lock, chrysler lebaron, steering wheel lock

Question
I have a 92 Chrysler Lebaron.
The steering wheel doesn't lock when I turn the key off and put it in park. I have had the car about 6 months and am not sure if it ever did.
Can you tell me what makes the steering wheel lock and how to fix it?
Thanks
Roger

Answer
Hi Roger,
I only have the column exploded views for the '89 and '94 model years. My impression is that there is an interconnection between the lock cylinder and a mechanism in the same area that inserts a finger into slot which locks the shaft, but identifying exactly which part it is and its replacement is not discussed in detail in the manual. I can xerox copy and mail you the pages from either manual. If you would like I would need your address and ask that you send me back three 42-cent stamps to cover the copy and postage cost. I doubt that individual parts may be available so you may end up getting a complete column from a wrecking yard, but it may be possible to get the parts from a dealer. If you would check with the parts counter at a dealer and determine whether the '92 is more like the '89 or the '94 that would be useful in deciding which to copy. Also, at the parts counter they can show you the exploded view and probably make a copy of it from their computer.
