Chrysler Repair: Blower motor resistor in 2000 Chrysler Sebring, chrysler sebring convertible, blower motor resistor

Question
I own a 2000 Chrysler Sebring Convertible and have had to replace the resistor once before, last winter.  It has gone out again and I don't want to have to take it back to the dealership and pay another $60.  I know where I can buy the part, but I don't know where the resistor is located and how to fix/replace it.  Could you please help me out with this.  I don't know why the resistor keeps going out, but I believe last time the dealership said it had something to do with the blower motor.  Should I not run my heater/AC on high? Or would that even matter?

Answer
Hi Amber,
The blower motor resistor is located under the dash at the air distribution housing unit. The blower motor is on the far right end, at the bottom (under) side. There is a panel on the lower edge of the right side dash that when removed gives you better access to things.  You will see a twisted pair of wires from the blower motor housing that goes directly to the resistor block which is also underneath and is held in place by a couple of screws at either end and will drop out. The frequent burn our may indicate that the motor is drawing too much current so it may need to be dropped out of the housing and the bearings lubricated. I believe that when you run it on high the resistors are by-passed so running it on high may preserve it a longer. There is a internal fuse (part of the block itself) that is probably what is blowing but I don't see it shown as being replaceable separately.
