Chrysler Repair: 2000 Chrysler Sebring ConvertibleDash Lights Out, chrysler sebring convertible, chrysler sebring

Question
My dash lights (instrument panel) lights on my 2000 Chrysler Sebring Convertible, 6 cylinder just stopped working. All fuses look good. My local repair man said to bring it to the dealer and now I'm shaking in my boots. Should I live with it, drive the car off of a cliff and be done with it, or try to track down the problem?

Answer
Hi Mike,
If the '00 model still has the long narrow power distribution center under the hood with the rear section that has 4 relays set at the very rear (stepped down a bit), then I have the proper wiring diagrams (from the '98 manual). The first question: is it just the cluster lamps, or is it also the radio, prndl indicator, AC heater controls? If it is all, then I would suspect either the variable dim resistor in the headlamp switch or the wire from the switch to the body control module. If only the cluster is out, then I would suspect the wire from the body control module to the cluster, a 'cold' solder joint between the socket where the wire is connected to the cluster board or a wire from the cluster to ground. So let me know how many of the dimmables are not working.
