Chrysler Repair: 2.5 V-6: removing harmonic balancer, jaw puller, inner diameter

Question
I am trying to replace the timing belt on a 2000 chrysler cirrus 2.5L v6. I can not get the harmonic balancer off. I have removed the bolt from the end of the crank and have a 2 jaw puller on the balancer. When I apply pressure with the puller it pulls both the balancer and the timing gear. I can not get them to separate. Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Matt,
Perhaps you could put a thick washer whose diameter is slightly smaller than the inner diameter of the balancer. Then rather than the puller pressing on the crankshaft it would then pull between the balancer and the timing gear and separate them.

Sorry for the delay in responding. I just noticed your question in the 'pool'.
