Chrysler Repair: 99 Chrsler T&C: speedometer, engine hesitation, chrsler

Question
At start up the speedometer goes from 0 to 120 and back to 0. The engine hesitates for a second then runs normal. Is it the Transmission speed sensor?

Answer
Hi Buddy,
I doubt it is the transmission sensor which is likely just sitting at rest when you start the engine. I would try do a self-diagnostic test on the cluster: Press and hold the trip and trip reset buttons, then turn the ignition to the "run" position, then watch the odometer window until the word 'code' appears, then release the buttons. If the cluster is ok the number 999 will appear, if another code appears let me know what it is. Then the cluster will do several tests and calibrations. Then when that is over see if anything has improved. The engine hesitation could be almost anything. You could try a fault code readout using the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then again watch the odometer window to see if any codes which are 4-ditit numbers preceded by a P appear. Let me know what those are.
