Chrysler Repair: 99 Sebring no start, 4 digit numbers, odometer reading

Question
we just changed the alternator in a 1999 sebring and then put a new battery in it but it will crank but wont start it seems as if there is no fire

Answer
Hi Sara,
Have you actually tested for spark? If not, pull a spark plug cap off and insert a screwdriver with an insulated handle into it until the tip touches the wire connector at the bottom of cap. Then hold the screwdriver and cap with two hands and position the shaft of the screwdriver 1/4" from the cylinder head while a helper tries to crank it over and you watch for a spark to jump across the gap for a full 5 seconds of cranking.
Is it possible that the theft alarm has been triggered? Try lock/unlock the door.
Is this a covert or a sedan and which engine do you have?
Try turning the ignition key 'on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch to see if the odometer reading changes to show any 4-digit numbers.
Was it running well before you changed the alternator and battery? Did you do anything else other than change the alternator and battery? Did you try to start it after replacing only one or the other?
