Nissan Repair: 2003 nissan maxima burning too much fuel, 2003 nissan maxima, air flow sensor

Question
My 2003 maxima has been burning fuel too fast I have changed the spark plugs cleansed the air flow sensor and throttle badly replaced the air filter and changed the oil and it is still burning up too much fuel.  I occasionally get a check engine light and it sputters or misfire but I don't know what else to check or repair, any ideas?

Answer
Hi William -

Your best bet is to get the check engine light diagnosed. The process is called OBD and usually places like Autozone can do it for you. Once the code is downloaded, we can figure out what is happening to your gas mileage. If there is a misfire, the OBD will tell you which cylinder.

Of course, the misfire definitely causes excessive fuel consumption.

Hope this helps -
