Chrysler Repair: 2000 Chrysler 300M:battery charge warning light on, 2000 chrysler 300m, chrysler 300m

Question
My car keeps turning a light on the dash that is a red battery and was wondering why it turns it on? The battery is only a couple months old and it is well connected and the stereo sometimes turns off by itself.

Answer
Hi Juan,
That light means that the voltage level in the system is lower than is necessary to keep the battery charged up (so you can start it again later) or even keep the stereo running. Usually this means that the alternator has stopped working and needs to be replaced. It is possible that the wire from the computer to the alternator field coils is disconnected which would shut down the alternator and cause the same warning light so you could inspect the wires at the alternator to be sure they are all connected. If that look OK then I would suspect the alternator is not good. Often a parts store will do a test for free to see if it does need to be replaced. You can do it yourself, and if you need some instructions let me know. But tell me which engine size you have as that is different for each of the 3 possible engines (all are V-6, so I need to know the L number).
