Chrysler Repair: Cluster gauges oscillate at start:05 T&C, gauge speedometer, trip odometer

Question
i have 2005 chrysler van and justed noticed whn i start the car the needles on the instrument cluster go back and forth very fast then finally settle into correct position.  i don't know what this means. the things on the cluster are the fuel gauge, speedometer transmission range indicator   is this serious

Answer
Hi Patty,
It is probably nothing to worry about, the gauges have a magnetic component that holds them where they were when turned off and so there will always be some movement initially. You can check the cluster function for faults by:
With the ignition OFF, press and hold the trip odometer reset button until SOF.# appears in the odometer window. Then release the button. Then watch for any subsequent numbers that appear until "end" appears. Let me know of any numbers that show up in between otherwise it is OK.
