Chrysler Repair: 2002 Sebring:No interior lights, door locks,..., chrysler sebring lxi, wheel drive vehicles

Question
QUESTION: Hello! I have a 2002 Chrysler Sebring LXI with the 2.7L
engine. I just got the car back today after having the
water pump replaced. The car was at the shop for over a
month (due to non-related issues). The problem now is all
these things no longer work: stereo and cd changer, power
locks, alarm & remote, trunk release and interior lights
including dome and the ones at the windshield over the
radio. All this stuff worked fine when we dropped the car
off at the shop. The mechanic said the only thing he
disconnected was the negative battery terminal. The battery
was dead and had to be charged. I checked all the fuses in
the dash and in the main fuse block under the hood and they
are all fine. Do you have any ideas what may be going on
here? Is it a relay issue? By the way, the only code give
is P1684 (I think this is the battery disconnected code but
not sure).
Thanks so much for any help you can offer!!

ANSWER: Hi Andy,
Take a closer look at fuse #5 in the dash (10 amp) as it may have a crack in its wire that you would have overlooked. If that prove to be OK then look closely at fuse #11 under the hood (20 amp) which feed fuse 5.

QUESTION: Hi Roland,

I checked again and also had my dad check those fuses.
There is no fuse #5 in the dash. Where that fuse is marked
as being #5, it is the extra fuse slot. I double checked
all the fuses and none of them are blown. Any suggestions?

ANSWER: Hi Andy,
May I clarify that I don't have every model year's manual for all the front wheel drive vehicles. I do have the '00 and the '03 manuals for the Sebring sedan, which is the body style that I believe goes with LXi.
There was significant revision of the electrical system between those two years, and my assumption was that it was finished by the '02 model year. If not, then let me suggest that you look at fuse #10 under the dash, and fuse #10 under the hood, and also verify that those fuses are good and that they have voltage on both sides of them all the time (not depending on the ignition switch). If they don't have voltage then fusible link #2 under the hood, same box, is blown according to the '00 manual.
Please let me know either way what you find, please, so that I can note which wiring diagrams apply to your '02 model sedan.
This may not solve all the non-working items but at least let's try for one success and go on from there.

QUESTION: Hi Roland,
I have tested fuse slots 10 in the dash and 10 in the main
fuse block under the hood. Both fuse slots have current all
the time. I have also tested the individual fuses with an
ohm meter as well as fuseable link 2. They are all perfect.

Answer
Hi Andy,
Without a manual for '02 I can't tell you any other fuse specific to this problem. However from all that you say it does have to be a fuse called the Ignition Off Draw fuse or IOD as that is the one that does the lights, door locks, alarm, remote. So look around on fuse block and box and in the manual if you have one that says IOD and that should be tested and also verified that there is voltage on the fuse socket. If not, then the feed for that socket will need to be tested. Please let me know when you find it so I can make a note of the # of the fuse.

Thank you for all your help. I just fixed my electrical
problems with my car. It turns out you were right to begin
with. The number 5 fuse in the dash was blown. I didn't
realize the fuse in the special clip was actually a fuse
that was being used. I thought it was the extra fuse, but
it was not. I replaced that fuse and now everything is back
to perfect. Thanks again!!!

Hi Andy,
Thanks for that confirmation that I needed for future questions about the '02 model year.
