Chrysler Repair: ac/recirc lights flashing: minivan, diagnostic capability, buttons work

Question
Hey Roland how are you doing?I have a 1998 grand vogayer with 3.3 engine and almost 300.000 miles,it is in very good shape overall but my ac and recirculating buttons are flashing,...when you first start the van, stays on for a about 10 minutes, during this time none of the other buttons work, when it stops flashing all systems work ok,what can I do,I purchase the manual at a local store but no info on this concern at all.thanks for your time

Answer
Hi Ronny,
I'm doing well, thanks. The AC/heater control has self-diagnostic capability. It appears the unit is either running a cooldown test of the AC system OR it is indicating that it tried to do that test and is reporting that the unit didn't succeed in cooling down the output of air during the test. The former is the case of those two button are flashing alternately, the latter is the case if they are flashing simulaneously. I guess in the wintertime this in not too important.
But if it is the former and you want to abort the test just turn the ignition off and then back to on, or you can simultaneously press the defogger, recirc, and rear wiper buttons to abort it. If when the flashing stops you find that only the rear wiper is flashing, then just push the button and it will stop. That would be the case if the unit passed all self-test.
I am not certain why it is starting to do the tests on its own account, but now you know how to stop it and regain control of the panel.
Roland

Also while you are at that page please notice a question about "nomination to be expert of the month" which I am in competition to receive, being only 2 votes behind the leader. I would truly appreciate your entering a "yes" for me where you see that question. That would 'make my day'!
