Chrysler Repair: 2002 chrysler Sebring; headlamp/turn signals dont shut off, chrysler sebring, multifunction switch

Question
My turn signal lights and headlights stay on after the car is shut off and runs the battery down.  I have to disconnect the battery to turn them off.  What could cause this?

Answer
Hi Jim,
I hope everything works out with the headlamp/turn signal problem. Please let me know by using the 'thank/rate' tab below.
While you are there, if I might ask a favor: where it asks about a 'nomination for expert of the month' I would appreciate your entering a 'yes'. I am in a close race for that honor so every vote counts!

History:

Hi Jim,
On the headlamps my first suspicion is that the headlamp delay relay is stuck in the on position. It is located under the dash in the fuse box. You will see two of them side by side and it is the one on the left. If you will pull it out of the socket that will shut it off the headlamps for a begining to the issue. You could try switching it with another relay of the same part number to see if that solves the problem with the headlamps and starts a new problem with the place where you exchanged it. If not, then we have an issue with the body controller or with the multifunction switch on the steering column itself if pulling that relay out doesn't turn off the lights, because it can operate the lights even with the ignition off.
On the turn signals, how do you mean they stay 'on'? Do both sides start flashing as soon as you turn off the ignition, or one side only, and do they stay on when you have the ignition turned on as well. I don't quite get the picture. Maybe you mean the parking lamps stay on? The turn signals are also operated by the multifunction switch so that may be the culprit.

PS Use the 'thank/rate' tab to get back to me without having to wait for me to be 'available' to take a question. There is a space for comments. Also, tell me if you have the convert or the sedan. While you are there, please consider giving me a 'yes' where the question about .nomination for expert of the month. is asked. Thanks
