Chrysler Repair: transmission problem?, independent shop, transmission problem

Question
I have an 02 sebring, 2.7L v6 automatic.
When slowing down, it appears to have trouble shifting down to first. There is a noticable clunk. Only happens on deceleration. Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Leon,
The best thing to do is get a readout of the memory of the powertrain controller for any fault codes that might be stored. An Autozone parts store will often do that for free. Or an independent shop will do it for about $40. Get the 4-digit code numbers, what they mean, and what is the repair recommended and for how much. Then write back and we'll compare notes with the manuals. I could guess but the codes are much more reliable.
