Chrysler Repair: 1999 cirrus no start, crankshaft position sensor, position sensors

Question
QUESTION: my cirrus will run fine then stall out at turns or slow speeds have to wait 20 minutes or longer to get it to start back up then runs fine until it does it again seems like 20 miles or so  its stalled at highway speeds twice both times it came back to life after a few seconds

ANSWER: Hi Bill,
I would get the fault codes readout from the engine computer. An Autozone parts store will often do that for free, or an independent shop will do it for about $40. Get the 4-digit fault code numbers, and ask what they mean and what would be the cost for repair. Then write back and we'll compare notes. The symptom you describe is often associated with the failure of one of the two rotational position sensors which start by failing when hot, then recovering when cool. There is a code for each of those (0320 and 0340). A quick recovery may implicate a faulty section in the ignition switch. QUESTION: hi thanks for your response 2 codes present 0725 engine speed sensor malfunction  and 0700 trans control system malfuction no ideal if these would cause the problem i am having

Answer
Hi Bill,
The 0725 is saying there is a descrpency between the rpm of the engine and the rpm of the turbine input sensor. Because the issue does involve the crankshaft position sensor (engine rpm detector) and that sensor also is critical for the engine to operate, and the symptoms you describe on the highway, my suggestion would be to replace the crankshaft position sensor. It might be a wiring problem so inspect the harnesses of the sensor and that between the trans controller and the engine controller. But if nothing in the history of the vehicle would raise doubts about the wiring, and the cost of the sensor is low, that is what I would do first and see if that resolves the problem. The 0700 just is corroborative of there being a trans code that is specific (the 0725) in the memory.

Hi Bill,
I was wondering how things worked out with the stalling at slow/highway speeds? Please let me know by using the 'thank/rate' tab below. While you are there, if I might ask a favor: where it asks about a 'nomination for expert of the month' I would appreciate your entering a 'yes'. I am in a close race for that honor so every vote counts!
Thanks,
