Chrysler Repair: 97 T&C instrument. cluster malfunction, soldering pencil, reset buttons

Question
my tach is frozen at 800RPM, speedometer at 0, only last 3 digits of odometer are lit & stuck @ "549", only D3L of PRND3L is lit, and froze.  odometer and D3L stayed lit all day w/ key out of ignition.  no trouble codes, everything else working fine (including overhead odometer/computer).  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Donald,
By "no trouble codes", by what means did you try? With a plug in reader or by the ignition key? The reader is valid, the ignition is not.
A good test for all these cluster problems is to do a self-test:
Witht he igntion off press and hold the trip and trip reset buttons and continue holding while turning the ignition to 'run' and continue holding until the word 'code' appears in the odo window and then release the buttons. The cluster will go thru a number of tests and the a three digit number will appear in the window. If 999 there are no cluster problems. Let me know anyother number and we'll go from there.
A common problem is that one of the solder joints between the cluster plug socket and the cluster circuit board is "cold/cracked". So you may need to remove the cluster and reheat those joints with a soldering pencil. But see what the result of the self test are.
