Chrysler Repair: jeep not starting, solenoid switch, starter solenoid

Question
I have a jeep wrangler that we took to the jeep dealer, they put a new starter on it which still didn't solve the problem,so after calling the jeep help line they put a relay on it in the fuse box, but it is still doing the click thing, help please.

Answer
Hi Thomas,
If by "doing the click thing" you mean that loud click from the starter motor solenoid itself (as opposed to a soft click from the starter relay), then it is either a faulty starter solenoid, a faulty starter motor, or a corroded/loose connection of the direct fat wire on the + post clamp of the battery that goes to the solenoid switch at the starter motor, or a poor ground wire connection from the battery - post clamp to the engine block/head area. It also could be a weak battery so verify that it isn't near the end of its warranty and is well charged. You could try tapping on the starter motor with a hammer while a helper tries the key. If that causes a response from the motor that would point toward the starter motor itself being the problem. The solenoid switch is part of the starter so that should have been replaced earlier with the motor.  So check all those possibilities and let me know what you find.
