Chrysler Repair: 1998 Neon: brake lightrs and rear turn signals, cleaner electronics, hazard switch

Question
The tail lights work (different bulb) have checked all fuses that I can find, but can' locate one that indicates brake lights and the turn signal fuse is fine.  have replaced the brake switch above the brake pedal.  Still no brake lights or REAR signals. Oh and also replaced the bulbs.  What are we missing.  Have looked at wires, but don't see a problem there either. Any new ideas, short of taking it to a mechanic?

Answer
Hi Kari,
The brake lights are powered by fuse 25 in the powerbox that is under the hood. The center high-mounted brake light should work if the fuse and the brake pedal switch are good. The low mounted brake signal circuit passes thru the turn signal/hazard (multi-function) switch. The contacts in that switch (when in the non-hazard setting) have to be clean to pass the brake light current to the low mounted lamps and also to pass the turn signal current.  So if the 25 fuse is good I would look at the interior of the multi-function switch as the problem area. Try latching and unlatching the hazard button to see if that clears the problem. If not, then try spraying some electronic circuit cleaner (electronics store sells this) inside the switch from a spray can with straw applicator and then working the hazard switch some more. Let me know what happens and we can go further if necessary.
