Chrysler Repair: 86 Plymouth turismo (carbureted 2.2), plymouth turismo, vacuum leak

Question
Hi Roland,  I own an 86 plymouth turismo 2.2 and keep getting a recurring problem.  Basically, right now it will start, idle
reasonably well, but when I put the accelerator down, it dies.
If I pump the gass quickly, it will pathetically climb in rpm,
then die again. The weird thing is, this usually happens to the motor when I put "the pedal down", like when I am trying to pass somebody and put the accelerator to the floor.  It will then start to sputter and I will have to keep shifting from 5 to 4 to keep it going road speed.  I have cleaned the lines, replaced filters, and checked plug wires for proper resistance, but don't have a way to check for good spark.  This happened about 6 months ago too, and I replaced the computer module (after reaplcing fiters etc.), but it didn't do anything different, then magically, it fixed itself, like it always seems to do!  Do you think this is a fuel problem?
Or is it still the computer?  I should mention I noticed the
fan motor is blowing as soon as I turn it on (even though it's cold)  is this a clue to something?  Generally, it will operate fine for several months, then something stupid like this happens and it bothers me that after all the times it has done this, I still don't know what it is!  Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks! Ben

Answer
Hi Ben,
The secondary throttle valve could be sticking, the ignition could be faulty, the exhaust could be restricted, or the fuel filter (which you replaced).
It also could be a vacuum leak, a loose carburetor, or intake manifold, disconnected/leaky hoses, isolator pad leaking vacuum, egr tube to intake manifold leak.
Also accelerator pump circuit dirty, inoperative pump or linkage maladusted...all carburetor related. Also dirt in power valve channel restriction or idle transfer system dirty.
Tell me which carb # you have and I can xerox and postal mail you the pages from the manual about it. It costs me 10 cents per page and postage, which you can reimburse me with 42 cent stamps after you get them.
Use the "thank/rate" tab to get back with an address. Also I'd appreciate a nomination for "expert of the month".
