Chrysler Repair: 2001 Chrysler Sebring alarm going off randomly, power door locks, chrysler sebring

Question
My car alarm goes off randomly without anything on the car being touch and does not turn off with the keyless entry or me unlocking the doors. Can I disable the alarm without effecting anything else? Thanks for your help. Lacy

Answer
Hi Lacy,
AFAIK there is no way to turn off the alarm in a permanent manner because it is integrated into the body computer. The best thing to do is not ever use the power door locks or the remote keyless when you close up the vehicle but rather to only use the manual push buttons to lock the car when you leave it. That way it will not be armed and therefor should not go off by itself. If it still does that even though you just use the push buttons to secure the car then there has to be short between one of the door lock and the body computer. But if you will simply only use the push buttons that would obviate the problem.
Worse comes to worse, you can cut the wires at the body computer that come from the door locks, but that is a bit severe.
You might also try to secure the doors tighter by moving the door latches inboard a bit. They are on the door post and if you loosen the screws you can move the latch inboard a bit to more firmly secure the doors and thus prevent false alarms that the door has been opened, if that is why the alarm is going off. This is a more likely reason for the problem if you have the convertible Sebring.
Those are my best suggestions.
