Chrysler Repair: P1494 is a Leak Detection Pump Switch or Mechanical Fault., chrysler sebring coupe, check fuse

Question
Can you please help
I have 1998 Chrysler Sebring coupe LXI V6 2.5 L. I get code P1494 is a Leak Detection Pump Switch or Mechanical Fault. I don't know where to start. I have access to a DMM, Snap On Solus, Power Probe II and a smoke machine. What should I do?

Thanks
Peter

Answer
Hi Peter,
The causes are possibly an open or shorted switch sense circuit, a pump switch failure, or an open "fused ignition switch" output. There are 4 pages of a fault tree approach to sorting this out in the powertrain diagnostic manual. I can most conveniently xerox copy and postal mail these to you.
Use the 'thank/rate' tab below to enter a mailing address and I will send them to you.
The wiring to check would be:
pin 2 of the pump to pin 20 of ecm (check fuse 9 in the PDC, light
                                            green/black wire)
    3                    77  white/dark green
    4                    72  orange
The pump is at the right front corner of the engine compartment, just behind the headlight module/ in front of the ABS module.

I think you have all the tools you will need.
