Chrysler Repair: Car stalls. Fuel filter? Cirrus/Stratus/Breeze, diagnostic capability, position sensors

Question
Where is the fuel filter located on a 2000 cirrus 2.5. I cant find it.    THANKS

Answer
Hi Bob,
It is hidden above the rear edge of the fuel tank (though you should be able to see it). It is about a 10-step procedure to remove it which involves partially lowering the tank and some other hassles. Are you sure it needs to be changed?
If not, I would forget until I had a strong indication it is the problem. If you want the pages that describe/show how it is done, use the 'thank/rate' tab below to get back to me with your postal mailing address and I will xerox and postal mail you the sheets.

THANKS. The car keeps stalling while i'm driving it. What do you suggest i check before the fuel filter

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the nomination.
It is more likely that one or the other of your engine position sensors is beginning to fail. The best diagnostic tool is the self-diagnostic capability of the engine computer which stores coded fault observations. Go to an Autozone parts store if there is one nearby or to an independent garage for a readout. The Autozone will likely do it for free, the independent garage for under $40. Get the code number, code name, what they recommend, and for how much. Let me know if you have any doubts and we can compare to the shop manuals. Tell me which engine is in the car too.
That is much more likely to solve your problem than the fuel filter.
