Chrysler Repair: Replacing weather stripping on 96 Sebring Convertible, chrysler lebaron, weather strips

Question
Hi Roland, I recently bought a 1996 Seabring Convertible for my teenage son.  The car is in good condition, but the roof leaks; I determined the weather strips probably need to be replaced.  The dealer charges 27% over the MSRP for each part, so I've decided to order the weather strips at parts.com.  Can  you please let me know how to install these, and what to watch out for.  Thanks

Answer
Hi Gaylord,
I looked at the '98 factory manual for the Sebring convertible but found no reference to the weatherstripping replacement procedure. My suggestion would be to check out the Yahoo Autos groups which are special interest car categories with members who share a common vehicle. I belong to the The Chrysler Lebaron Club group which has a couple of thousand members most of whom own convertibles (I own a 2 door coupe, however). If there is a similar group of Sebring Convert owners I bet you could get some great advice from those folks. If not, then I would believe that the design of the weatherstipping on the Lebaron is similar enough to the Sebring to be applicable. I find these groups very valuable for the finer details specific to the model/year that are often not covered in the shop manuals put out by Chrysler even. So give Yahoo Autos* groups a try, and best of luck. I am pleased you are going to do-it-yourself.
Roland
