Chrysler Repair: 1995 Cirrus start/shut down after 5 seconds, chrysler cirrus, 1995 chrysler cirrus

Question
In my pos 1995 Chrysler Cirrus, the car will start, run 5 seconds and stall, with the tach not moving. After a dozen or so tries, starts right up and will run all day. Totally wierd

Answer
Hi Jon,
Do you have a vehicle theft security system? If so, there may be something funky about it not disarming properly as the 5 second run(usually more like 3 seconds) then shut-off is typical when the system is still armed and resisting being stolen. On the other hand, it could be related to a crank or cam sensor that is getting weak, but that usually stalls some minutes after getting underway, rather than the other way around. Those are my ideas. Let me know if either of these theories have any credence.
Also, try to get any fault codes: turn the ignition key "on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light, which remains "on", to begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat the process to assure an accurate, repeatable count set. Let me know the count set and we'll go from there.
