Chrysler Repair: Starter clicks rapidly, rapid oscillations, solenoid switch

Question
Saw an eariler question about rapid oscillations when trying to start a Chrysler mini-van.  I have a 2000 Town & Country that does the same thing.  If it turns out not to be the battery and I check the starter motor, where is it located?

Answer
Hi Brian,
There are 4 different engines that you might have so I can't be sure. But in general the starter is located best from under the van, near the read of the engine, with its nose juat at the seam between the engine and the transmission. It would be either on the left or right side of the oil pan, at that rear of the engine location.
The rapid ocsillations suggest a problem with the starter solenoid or the starter motor armature itself. But also check the starter relay in the rectangular box in the engine compartment near the battery to be sure that it is not the problem. You could verify that it isn't the relay by removing it and jumping a wire across the front and rear pins of socket which should cause the starter motor to fire up. Be sure the trans is in N or P and that the ignition is "off" when you try this.
If it runs normally then your problem is in fact the relay. Otherwise it is the motor or the battery, but you say that you checked that the battery is charged and in good condition. Usually the clicking means the battery will not put out sufficient voltage when asked for such large currents and thus needs to be charged or replaced (if it is nearing the end of its warranty). The oscillation normally means the voltage is not sufficient to keep the solenoid switch on the motor in its closed position. Thus the battery is the usual suspect.
