Chrysler Repair: 97 Sebring V-6 Rough Idle/Stall when stopped with AC on, nose plier, internal spring

Question
Mr. Finston

I have a 97 Sebring with the V-6 in it.  Recently It started having a really
rough idle when coming to a stop.  The roughness happens about 50% of the
time with the AC off, but about 99% of the time with the AC on.  I have
already changed plugs, wires, and coil; with nothing to show for it.  I read
some of your other articles that mentioned the EGR.  I tried to find the slot in
the rod that you were talking about but could not see the slot, but I did soak
it down with WD 40.

Thank you so much for your time.

Nathan

Answer
Hi Nathan,
You mighe try moving the rod by means of a needle nose plier if you can get it in to that area, just to verify that it is closing to a dead stop via the internal spring action.
Then you might try to remove the air intake tube at the throttle body and using q-tips and solvent try cleaning the throat of the throttle body, both sides of the moveable plate, and the smaill hole at the side of the throat which is where the idle air is admitted.
Finally, get a fault code readout at an Autozone parts store for free in most cases, of at an independent shop for around $40. That would give you a hint on what to try next. It might be that the idle control "motor" which controls the air opening is sticky and that could be removed from the throttle body and its tip cleaned. That would have a fault code were it the cause of the poor idle response to AC or coming to a stop.
