Chrysler Repair: battery connection flaky: Cirrus, cable clamps, inner surfaces

Question
i am changing a batery in a chrysler cirrus 95.when i have the  positive and negative connectors on tight there is no power.when i loosen the positive connection get enough power for lights and turn signals, but nothing towards the ignition.

Answer
Hi Richard,
Have you checked that the inner surfaces of the cable clamps are shiny and that the battery posts are similarly shiny?
Have you examined the cable wires where they connect to the cable clamps to be sure they aren't corroded/loose?
Have you checked the negative clamp's wire at its other end to make sure it is firmly and cleanly attached to the left strut tower, and that the other ground wires at the engine block and transmission are  cleanly and tightly attached?
Unless one of those connections is loose/corroded/open, you should get a good connection. Is it possible that you the battery reversed?
I can't suggest anything more.Is there a history to this problem you can tell me?
