Chrysler Repair: 96 cirrus alarm, door switches, voltage pulse

Question
The alarm in my 96 cirrus will not disengage. The lights and horn are not going off but the gas has been shut off. I have tried engaging it and shutting it off on both doors but to no avail. Would the door switches on the door lock be bad? What can you suggest I try?

Answer
Hi Larry,
I just found your question on the 'pool' list as well. If you asked Kevin, then he may have passed it along to me. I would suggest that if you indeed find no voltage showing up either pin at the body computer when a helper tries to lock/unlock both front door (the voltage pulse would be momentary, just when the key was turned to either extreme position) then buy a 2700 ohm resistor and a 620 ohm resistor (or thereabouts will be fine, at an electronics store). Then jump one end of the 2700 to a 12v supply point nearby and the other end of the resistor momentarily jump to either pin 19 or pin 20 (take your choice). That will mimic locking the door. Then do the same thing with the 620 resistor which will mimic unlocking the door. Then see if it will start.
Those resistor sizes are from a Sebring manual, but I suspect they apply to your Cirrus. If not, experiment with some other values of resistance until you find the size that will cancel the alarmed condition.
