Chrysler Repair: attach throttle cable to pedal, loose nuts, thread size

Question
Hi - My pickup stranded me with a gas pedal that's down to the floor and disconnected from the cable.  I can feel the cable down there and can feel the hole in the pedal attachment where it hooks on, but don't know how to do it.  At the end of the cable, there is a little 'end' or 'stopper' type of thing with a nut behind it.  I can't see any loose nuts that fell off releasing the cable from where it connects to.  Can you please tell me what I need to reconnect the cable to the pedal?  Thanks. It'll keep me from having to call a tow truck.  Appreciate your time.

Answer
Hi Diana,
You didn't mention the year or model so I can't be sure. I only have manuals for the passenger cars, so I can't be certain about a pick-up as well. But for about a decade from the late 80's to the late 90's the cable attached to a flange that actually is attached to the top of the pedal, as an extension, which is how you appear to describe it. There should be a nut that probably fell off the end of the cable. It might be behind the pedal on the floor matt. If your's is like that then I would go to the other end of the cable at the throttle body and disconnect the cable and its housing so as to gain some flexibility and then try find the nut and reconnect the cable to the flange and put on the nut. Then reconnect it at the throttle body. If you can't find the nut, then remove the cable entirely and take it to a hardware store to get a nut with the matching thread size.  Then reinstall the cable.
