Chrysler Repair: 1986 Chrysler LeBaron: hard start when warm, exhaust gas recirculation valve, chrysler lebaron

Question
Car will not restart after reaching running temp.  It will restart if it has completely cooled down.  I get a 55 code on the inboard computer.  I've already replaced power module, logic module, throttle body temp sensor, radiator fan.  Thank you for your assistance.

Answer
Hi Bill,
That sounds like a mixture issure. Why not take a look at the coolant temp sensor which is located near the thermostat housing, to see if it might not be inaccurate. If you remove its two-wire sensor (tan/black, black/light blue) you should measure 700-1000 ohms resistance when its hot. If it read above several thousand ohms when hot then that would make a too rich mixture.
The other mixture item is the exhaust gas recirculation valve. You would want to be sure that it is fully closed to a dead stop via its internal spring action. If it is slightly ajar that would make a too lean mixture. Because you didn't tell me which engine I can't tell you exactly where you will find it so let me know if you can't. It has a valve stem located between the round top and the valve body (hidden behind a flange) and that stem has a circumferential slot into which the tip of a screwdriver can be inserted so as to move the valve open and shut. If it is sticking slightly ajar spray some WD-40 on the stem where it enters the body.
