Chrysler Repair: 99 mini van: warning chimes wont stop, doorpost, mini van

Question
all of a sudden the van started chiming and all doors were shut...please help

Answer
Hi Jennifer,
I suspect that although the doors are nominally closed and latched, one of the door striker/catches is out of adjustment so far that the door is not pressing the switch which is responsible for setting off the chimes if the door were actually ajar. I would suggest that you put the key in the ignition and turn the switch to the run position. Then close all the doors and see if the chime starts again. If/When it does, then try pushing in on each door from the outside to see which one when pushed causes the chiming to stop (include the tail gate in the testing). When you find the faulty door then simply adjust the doorpost-mounted stiker/catch (which mates with the latch in the door) inward by loosening the screws that hold it to the door frame. These catches are designed to be adjustable so this is a routine adjustment to get the door to close firmly and tight enough to satisfy the chime-initiating switch that the door is truly closed.
