Chrysler Repair: 1994 Chrysler LHS radio problem, 1994 chrysler lhs, chrysler lhs

Question
Roland, you asked what radio I had in the car, well it is the deluxe "infinity" unit. The deep hum through the speakers is only when the radio or dvd will not play. When the radio does play, that annoying deep hum disappears. Hope you can resolve this problem of the unit sporadically working without me having to replace it entirely. Thanks, Ed

Answer
Hi Ed,
My inclination would be to check the multipin plugs on the rear of the radio (remove bezel surrounding the console, then the screws that hold the chassis, then pull out) and the remote amplifier (on the left side wall of the trunk behind the trunk liner). As well, there is a black/light blue wire on the rear of the radio which should be tightly attached to the chassis and at the other end to a ground point of the dash. Similarly there is a ground wire (black) on the 2-wire plug at the amplifier. Check that wire at its ground point at the left rear wheel well. If the plugs and grounds are solid, then I would try shaking the wires at all the plugs while the radio was 'on' to see if you can induce the humming or get it to stop if it is not humming. It may be that the problem is internal to the radio or the amplifier, so all you can really do is check the plugs, the grounds, and possibly for a loose solder connection between the wires and the plugs.
Good luck, and please let me know if you find a cause.
