Chrysler Repair: 93 transmission problem:no forward gear, solenoid valve, forward gear

Question
I have reverse, but when I put in a forward gear it takes off but in seconds it is like there is no gear. It will coast to a stop.

Answer
Hi Bill,
About the only local fix to try is to check the fluid level in the transaxle via its dipstick. If some is needed only use ATF +4 type.
If that is not the reason for the no forward drive, then the best thing to do is tow it to a reputable transmission shop(rather than an nationwide chain or a dealer) that has experience with Chrysler electonic transaxles and also has a diagnostic readout box and a "data link connector" type of plug to attach to the socket that is under the dash to the left of the steering column (it has 6 pins, three on a side). Such a box can access the memory of the transmission controller and seek the existence of stored fault codes. The presence of such a code is the best way to find out what is wrong and what may be the best repair appraoch. If you have this done, find out which 2-digit fault code numbers were found, what they mean, what they say needs to be done, and how much. Then write back with the result and we can compare that to what the manual suggests for that code. Make sure they have the plug and the reader that will communicate with the '93 Chrysler digital data bus system.
It could be something that can be repaired without removing and rebuilding the transmission, such as the fluid pump, the filter, a solenoid valve. So do the diagnostics before authorizing any such an overall removal and rebuild.
