Chrysler Repair: 97 Town and Country: no start, cluster readings, data communication system, digital data communication

Question
I have a 1997 Chrysler Town & Country, it will start but only runs about 5 seconds.  The drivers console is completely dead, no tack, odo, speedo, lights, transmission position indicator, etc... also the overhead console seems to have power but no readings for odo, bearing, dte, eco, etc... Thanks in advance for any advice!

Answer
Hi Sam,
It would appear that the digital data communication system is not working. I would suspect an issue with the body control module which mediates most of the conversation. Check that fuses 2 and 6 in the fuse block under the dash are working, including inspection for a subtle crack in the wire that may be "open" even if the fuse isn't frankly blown. If that doesn't bear fruit, then it would be very helpful to get a fault code readout of both the engine controller and the body controller using a diagnostic readout box on the plug that is under the dash next to the steering column. Get the 4-digit fault code numbers and then write back with the results. I have ths shop manuals that will help us sort this out. Because there are a variety of reasons why the data system can break down it is much more efficient and practical if we can determine which is the cause.
The failure to run more than 5 seconds is similar to that when the theft system is alarmed. You might try lock/unlock of the passenger using the key, though it may not help if the issue is the body controller itself which is the center of the theft system.
