Chrysler Repair: chrysler newyorker 1990 v6 3.3L:stalls at start, air intake hose, fuel pressure regulator

Question
my car runs for 3 seconds and then stalls out even when i try to push on the gas pedal it still dies. i disconnected the line from the fuel tank to the fuel filter and put it in a bucket, i turn the key forward and the fuel pump does push gas through for a few seconds and the stops but the the fuel pump does make noise like there is no pressure.so i'm assuming the pump is still good. i'm thinking its the fuel pressure regulator or a bad sensor. any advice would be greatful thamks for ur time.

Answer
Hi Don
The fuel pump is very likely fine. I would try two things: first turn the ignition key:"On-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light that remains on to be to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat to assure an accurate count. Then combine the numbers in pairs in order of appearance to gorm 2-digit fault codes. The last code is always 55 which means end of readout. Then either write back or go to www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html for a code list.
That fault code approach often will reveal the cause.
The other possibility is that you have an egr valve that is stuck ajar, IF you happen to have a car sold originally in California. If not then that would not be applicable.
The third thing would be to clean the throttle body's throttle plate (both sides) and throat, as well as the air by-pass passageway, using solvent and a q-tip. Just remove the air intake hose to get access to this throat.
So let me know and tell me any fault codes that come out.
