Chrysler Repair: 95 Chrysler LeBaron Top:down only, chrysler lebaron, electrical background

Question
Hi Roland... My 95 LeBaron convertable top has always worked
great.I put it down the other day(no problem) but when I hit the "up" switch it would not go.  Checked the switch( I have an electrical background) and the fuse. Both ok.  Motor goes down fine just not up.  All other power items are good.  Do you know where I should look?  Hey thanks a lot...  Van

Answer
Hi Van,
My suspicion would be the top relay is not closing one of the two sets of contacts in the up polarity. You could use some heavy wires to jump directly to the motor from the 12V hot black plug (red wire) at the relay and to a nearby ground and then reverse the polarity of your wires at the motor, as a check that the motor is OK. If you have checked that the switch is reversing the polarity of the low current side of the operation as seen between the red/white and yellow/black wires that operate the relay coils (found at the other two plugs of the relay), and the motor will run both ways, then it has to be internal to the relay, probably just the contacts which you may be able to clean up.
Maybe it is just telling you,"hey it is summertime".
