Chrysler Repair: Engine start stumble, dodge intrepid rt, air intake hose

Question
I own a 2000 Dodge Intrepid RT (300M underneath). Flawless starting until about 3 weeks ago.  Now it may start, immediately stumble and stop.   Giving a bit of throttle causes it to run and smooth out and behave normal.  I have never had to give it throttle.  OBD is free of all codes.  Car runs great otherwise

Answer
Hi Chuck,
Without fault codes it is hard to be specific. I would begin by removing the air intake hose to the throttle body and then clean the throttle plate, both sides with solvent, and also the air side passageway for the idle air intake which is on the circumference of the inside of the body throat, right next to the valve. Also clean the throat of the body. Use a Q-tip or similar to do the cleaning. Then let me know if that helped or not. There are some other things you can check but try this first. The next would be to remove the egr valve which may be hung up ajar which will cause a too dilute mixture at start up.
