Chrysler Repair: accessory belt replacement: 3.8L, crank pulley, tensioner pulley

Question
Could you please give me instructions on replacing the fan belt on a 1999 plymouth voyageur 3.8 litre

Answer
Hi Maryls,
The 3.8L has a tensioner pulley that is mounted on a spring-loaded rotating arm, between the crank pulley and the power steering pump. For access to the tensioner you would do well to jack up the front right tire and remove it. Then there is a panel between the wheel well and the engine compartment which has fasteners you can remove to release the panel which allow you full access to all the pulleys and the tensioner arm/pulley. Put a wrench on the bolt of the the tensioner pulley axle and rotate the arm clockwise so as to relieve the tension on the old belt for removal Then apply the new belt, and once again lever the tensioner pulley clockwise to allow the belt to fit over all the pulleys, then release the wrench to allow the pulley to apply the proper tension to the belt. That is is.
