Chrysler Repair: 97 sebring coupe: battery wont charge, 4 digit numbers, fusible links

Question
i have a 97 sebring coupe 2.5l v6. the alternator runs the engine, but won't
charge the battery. both the alternator and the battery are brand new. this
started as an intermittend problem, but now is constant. could the PCM be the
problem? (i checked all connections, fusible links, etc. all are ok)

Answer
Hi Steven,
I believe that you might mean that the voltage output is not sufficient to keep the battery charged rather than not charge the battery period. I would begin by trying for a fault code readout to see what the PCM has stored in its memory. You can get a free readout at most Autozone parts stores. Or try the ignition key on the chance that it might readout on the check engine light by its flashing/pause/flashing etc. Turn it "On-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time then count the number of flashes or watch to see if any 4-digit numbers appear in the odometer window. Write back with any fault codes you get by any of these methods and it will help us to identify why the no/insufficient voltage output. It could be a PCM fault but not necessarily. Thus the need for a code.
