Chrysler Repair: EGR code po406, engine controller, pollution control

Question
I have a 2005 Pacifica with the engine light on. Checked the code and it turned out to be po406. The car runs fines so I reset the codes and it went off for a day but nows it back a day later. This is the high output code. what does that mean? What should my next step be? Thanks

Answer
Hi Jay,
I would believe that there is either something the matter with the echaust gas recirculation valve, the sensor that measures the positiom of the valve, or the wiring to the sensor from the engine controller. This can be inspected visually to see if any of the wires might be shorted and further testing to see which of the possibilities is the cause. Because of the recent year of the vehicle and because this is a pollution control device, I suspect that the original warranty by Chrysler will be in effect so you should be able to get it repaired for free. Check with a dealer and if they don't seem responsive ask them for the phone number of the regional service representative, and after that the Corporate Headquarters, and finally the federal NHTSA or EPA which issues performance standards for such devices.
Let me know how it works out, please.
