Chrysler Repair: 1997 Sebring JXi w/165,000 miles - reality check, rear view mirror, compression check

Question
Hi Kevin;

Hi have a 1997 6 cyl. Sebring Conv. with 165,000 miles on it in Atlanta.  It now blows white to blue white smoke after idling for more than 30 seconds, but never when starting up. I haven't done a compression check yet, not even sure if I will. It does go through about 1 quart of oil each month, but the smoke has just become noticeable in the rear view mirror while accelerating from idle.  I expect that the rings need to be done, but am wondering if the vehicle is almost at the end of it's life, with one expensive and time consuming repair after after another about to occur. I know that this is qualitative question, but I'm sure you see more cars than I do and would like your feedback on this.

Best Regards,
Eric

Answer
a compression test would say if the issue is head related and which ones U would be looking at    as far as if u want it done  that is a money question that U should ask your self   if u want to spend 2k or so  or if u want a monthly payment for a few years.
