Chrysler Repair: Transmission: 93 Concorde, stalls when put in gear, torque converter clutch, solenoid switch

Question
I recently changed my Transmission in my 93 Chrysler Concorde and at times it drives perfectly but now it stalls when i put it in drive in the morning after backing out of my driveway. It always reverses perfectly. And when it does finally go in drive it drives perfectly until i come to a stop then it does a "putt" and doesnt upshift until i pull over and restart it then it drives great until i come to another stop.I tried putting it in neutral when coming to a stop and 8 times outta 10 it will upshift after stopping but sometimes it wont.Plz help.

Answer
Hi Steven,
The torque converter clutch lock-up device (which should only come into play when at road speeds) is not unlocking properly or is being brought into play under the wrong conditions. This may be an issue with a hydraulic fluid solenoid switch in the solenoid box and not inside the transmission proper. So that would be the area to focus upon first. It can be serviced without removing the transmission. Check the fluid level to begin the process. You didn't tell me the history of the "change" but if this was done by a shop they might well be asked to deal with the issue under a warranty if there is one.
