Chrysler Repair: Dodge Dynasty 92 brake problem at one wheel, caliper pistons, dodge dynasty

Question
Hi, I recently replaced disk, rotor and caliper for my left front brake. while test driving there is smoke coming from the wheel and the wheel becomes very hot. It seems as if the caliper core may not be retracting ?? How may I verify this and solve the problem. Thank you.

Answer
Hi Aubrey,
It makes sense to me that if after installing a new caliper (and when you presumably checked that it was not binding) and now it binds up and will not release, then indeed the caliper pistons are not retracting. I would begin by replacing the rubber hydraulic hose between the caliper and the metal brake line to which it attaches. Those hoses begin to breakdown and clog so that while they will operate the caliper, the necessary slight backflow (upon release of the pedak) thru the hose will be impaired which results in the caliper sticking in the extended position. Replacing the hose will vvalidate that this most likely explanation is not the case, before you pursue exchanging the caliper for another new one. Because the binding is only happening at one wheel, that would indicate that the problem is not the master or power brake units. I believe that hose is your problem.
