Chrysler Repair: 1997 cirrus fuel filter, fuel pressure gauge, postal mail

Question
QUESTION: I am not getting any fuel to the fuel rail, yet I hear the fuel pump come on when you turn the key.  Is it safe to assume the problem is a blocked fuel filter?  I was sputtering and spitting periodically before it decided not to start one day.  There is spark.  If there could be another issue, any help would be appreciated,

Thanks

Steve

ANSWER: Hi Steve,
It could be several causes other than the filter:
restricition in the fuel supply tube
restricition between fuel pump inlet and fuel supply nipple on top of fuel pump module
plugged fuel pump inlet strainer
the fuel pump module itself.
There is an adapter (Miller tool # C-4799B) which with an fuel pressure gauge would allow you to do the test to figure out what is wrong. Replacing the filter requires draining the tank so I would do this sort of diagnosis first. The fuel deliver system section of the '97 manual is 21 pages which at a cost of 10 cents per side I could xerox and postal mail to you for about $3.00. Use the thank and rate tab where you can list a postal address. I can mail it to you with the understanding that you would send back 7 forty-one cent stamps after you receive the material.

QUESTION: The fuel tank is empty at the moment.  It shouldn't be too hard to drop the tank a bit, and replace the filter.  Would I be able to get at the fuel supply module and nipple at this time...to clean the strainer out.

2nd.  I used the thank/rate tab...filled it out, but something went wring when I tried to send it.  Did that come back to you, with my address?

Thanks for the help.

Hi Steve,
I'll copy the pages and figure out the postage, then get back to you with the total. Let me know your email address so I can reach you with that information.
