Chrysler Repair: fuel pressure vs map sensor, exhaust leaks, fuel pressure

Question
Hello Roland ,your offer to lend me your DRBII is above and beyond but I will respectfully decline as the local parts store has a scanner which tells me the only code is 33 (AC relay) it is starting to drive 'lurchy' when cold now as soon as i start the car and a quick re-set of the ignition and it drives okay for a few miles. I am leaning away from the open/closed loop scenario and more toward a failing part ,You say it is unlikely to be the fuel pump or coil so I will have to check on a map sensor. How can I check the fuel pressure without a gauge ? The exhaust leaks are at the back

Answer
Hi Paul
I can't think of a way to test the pump for pressure without a gauge, except perhaps to listen for whether it sounds different if the engine is misbehaving during that 1 second activation in the "run" position. My MAP signal read 4.67 in the off position and 1.3-1.5V when idling with the engine hot, for reference as you check that. I wonder whether the "reset" of the ignition might mean you have a flaky ignition switch? You could watch fuse 4, 9, and 13 with a voltmeter to see if any of them are jumping around while you are driving. Those are powered by the three sections of the switch that operate in the "run" position.
