Chrysler Repair: 97 Neon no start:replacing crank sensor, shaft sensors, crank sensor

Question
QUESTION: Hi Roland, I have changed keyless remote battery , is there any programming? Because I think from that moment I cannot start the car. I can hear the fuel pump and then nothing. Sorry by my grammar, I am from Slovakia.

ANSWER: Hi Rasto,
Does the starter motor crank the engine?. Does it not 'catch' and run, or what exactly what happens? Please be a bit more specific. According to my '97 Neon manual the keyless entry systen has nothing to do with an anti-theft function or the starting of the engine. So I don't think that is the problem. Your grammar is fine!

QUESTION: Hi Roland, what I did before: I jumped the ASD relay and motor was turning, but no start. No current to the coil, no current to the injections. I thought there could be some connection between starting and immobilizer. So that was my question about programming of keyless. Many thanks. Rasto

ANSWER: Hi Rasto,
The no spark suggests to me that you may have an issue with either the crank or the cam shaft sensors. The '97 is on the edge of the code changeover (OBD-I vs OBD-II) so you may or may not be able to get an answer by trying to get a fault code readout using the ignition key. Give it a try:
"on-off-on-off-on and leave "on", doing that in an elapsed time of 5 seconds or less. Then watch the check engine light which remains "on" to begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat to be sure of an accurate count. Then group the numbers in pairs in the order of appearance to form the two digit fault code numbers. Then go to www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html for a translation or write back with the numbers and I'll go from there. The last number is always 55 because that means "end of readout".
The code for the crank sensor is 11, the code for the cam sensor is 54. When you write back tell me which engine you have.

QUESTION: Hi Roland, the codes were 12 and 11. So it seems that I have to change the crankshaft sensor? Can you tell me where to find it, or could you send me a picture? Many thanks. Rasto

Answer
Hi Rasto,
The sensor is mounted on the engine block, behind the generator/above the oil filter. There is no provisions for drawing to be sent on this site. The wire colors are orange, black/light blue, and gray/black. When you get the new one it will have a paper spacer on the end of the sensor. Leave it on, insert the sensor so the paper tip touches the surface of the crank ring inside the engine, then tighten the retaining nut to hold it in that position. The paper will wear away but leave the tip at the correct distance from the metal surface that it "senses".
