Chrysler Repair: Chrysler Intrepid 2001, light flickers, chrysler intrepid

Question
The oil pressure light flickers while engine is idling. This after a lot of stop and go driving and the engine is warm. The car has apprx 64000 miles on it. We checked the oil and it was 1/2 quart low so we added oil. No knocks or noise at all coming from the engine. I'll be taking it for an oil change in 2 weeks. Do you know what the cause of the oil pressure light coming on could be? Thanks very much!

Answer
Hi Becky,
This is not unusual. It could be that the senser for the pressure is slightly pessimistic. When the oil gets hot, it gets less dense and so the pressure drops. You can eliminate the problem most likely by increasing the weight of the oil by one step from what you have been using. Or you can replace the sensor. The light should not come on when you are moving and the rpm is over 1,000, but at idle this is not something to be worried about.
