Chrysler Repair: backup light burnout, mechanical shock, light bulbs

Question
I recently had my 98 Sebring LXI repaired due to a read end accident. I am now having problems with the backup light bulbs burning out. Perhaps it is a coincidence, but what else could be causing this?

Answer
Hi Matthew,
As long as they aren't "on" all the time the filaments should last about the same as new bulbs. There is no way for the voltage to be higher (which would shorten the life, if true) than anywhere else in the vehicle. A mechanical shock to a bulb (the collision itself) may cause it to burn out sooner. But once you put new bulbs back in that shouldn't happen. You might see if there is something mechanical that is causing the bulb holders to be bouncing around or water to leak into the housing as either could shorten the bulb life.
